Ilaris
Ilaris (canakinumab) is a biologic therapy prescribed to treat a variety of autoimmune inflammatory diseases.
Ilaris works by blocking IL-1ß. like most cytokines, IL-1ß plays a role in staving off infections. However, when IL-1ß is overproduced in the body, it can create unnecessary autoimmune responses like rashes, joint pain, and fevers.
As a human monoclonal antibody, Ilaris is able to bind to IL-1ß and prevent it from influencing the inflammatory responses in the body.
